Is it worth paying for hypnobirthing?

Baby on the way and you suddenly have a big long list of things to buy. Adverts surround you for the latest baby gear. You seem to be seeing loads of suggestions for various baby related items.

You may wonder if you really need it all. The answer is you probably don't. Much of the fancy equipment goes unused or barely used. You'll forget all about the "must have" baby gear after a few months.

We are in a cost of living crisis which doesn't help, and it may be that you'd love to do a class but feel you just can't afford it.

You may not care about what pram you had in 10 years time. Believe me I know: I was a pram addict and bought a fair few over the years having my four.

Now, I can barely recall those prams and they are insignificant in my memories. But the birth experiences - I'll always remember those. My first was 19 years ago and I can still remember it all - and regret not preparing for it.

I didn't need a hypnobirthing class I thought, no way was I going to spend money on that kind of thing. It was much more fun baby clothes and equipment shopping - after all I needed those things. The birth, well I could just trust the professionals to tell me what to do on the day. Or I could read a few books, take a short freebie class and that would do. I vaguely knew there was probably other classes out there but thought they weren't for me. I thought I had to just do the basics, that private classes were out of my budget, something I didn't want to look into because I thought I couldn't afford it.

19 years later I can honestly say had I thought about learning some coping techniques, prepared my mind and gone into it with a different approach - I'd be remembering that birth for the right reasons. I wouldn't be looking back thinking how different things could have been if I'd not gone into it hoping for the best but not preparing for it.

The birth experience is probably one of the biggest days in your life. But how can you get ready for that?

With all you think you need to buy, why would you spend money on hypnobirthing? A good class won't be cheap (because it's worth so much) but how is it really going to help you? Here’s how and why:

Is it worth paying for hypnobirthing?

So many times I hear people tell me it's too expensive, they don't know if it's worth it, they don't really want to spend that much on a class. They think they are paying for a 1 day class -

what they don't realise is it's so much more than the class itself - it's skills for life. As one client recently told me: "We didn't know how much we needed this class until we did it.".

Hypnobirthing in no way guarantees a good birth, that you won't need intervention or it won't go wrong - but it does give you a massive help in coping with it. It gives you options. The cost thing - I get it, I really do. It took me until baby number four until I wanted to actually spend money on birth prep. I thought it was too expensive, waste of time, might not work, couldn't afford it. I only wish I'd spent the money a lot earlier than my fourth birth. What I gained from that class all those years ago was priceless. So much so that I went on to train to share this with other parents. I do believe because I have been there and done it myself, the value of my experience is so beneficial to you. Because I have been where you are now - I have walked the walk. You may still be wondering if this is for you. Times are tough for people and you'll want to be sure you are getting value for money.

Is it worth it?

Well I was talking to a friend the other day who told me she is still using her hypnobirthing techniques 10 years on!

Think about that - these are skills you won't forget, won't lose and won't stop being useful after a few months.

Birth partners have also come back long after their courses to tell me they used the self hypnosis skills for sports, job interviews, work stresses and much more.

Add to all of that the many hours of research and planning that goes into your course. The years of experience, learning and preparation your course teacher has gone through.

You are paying for the hours of preparation that goes into each class - I don't just read this out from a textbook, I spend time ahead of your class researching, planning and preparing the content so it's best for you.
